I specialise in intellectual property, information technology and commercial law. I enjoy the variety of clients I work with, that range from listed companies to family owned businesses and from government departments to non-profits.
In addition to managing and protecting the intellectual property portfolios of a range of New Zealand and international businesses, I also advise on acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, restructuring, and the preparation and negotiation of commercial contracts.
I have a number of not-for-profit clients and am privileged to advise iconic national charities and industry organisations.
I am recognised as a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2021 legal directory (for both intellectual property and TMT) and is listed as a leading individual for prosecution and strategy in the World Trademark Review 2021. Clients comment "Scott Moran is calm and experienced and a pleasure to work with. He understands the commercial aim of what we try to achieve and ensures that advice and work always reflects that." (Legal 500 Asia Pacific, Intellectual property) "Scott is extremely personable and takes the time to understand the client’s needs. His advice is commercial, clear and to the point. Rather than providing a generic response, he tailors it to each client and goes above and beyond to look at how a particular issue fits into a larger strategic picture." (World Trademark Review 2021)
I am a member of the Institute of Directors, the International Trade Mark Association (Committee Member), the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand and the New Zealand Law Society.
I have a number of governance roles including being a New Zealand Football Executive Committee Member and New Zealand Netball’s appointed Board Member to Netball Central Zone. I also assist as a judge of the New Zealand Law Awards.
