I specialise in public, administrative, and regulatory law. I also advise on a range of related matters including official information, local government issues, and procurement.
My main area of interest and expertise is in advising clients on the exercise of statutory powers and functions, and helping them ensure that their processes are robust and decisions are fairly made and able to withstand scrutiny. My experience includes advising on these issues for government departments, Crown entities, regulators, and organisations engaging with these bodies. I also help private organisations when they need to deal with the government.
I also have extensive experience with legislation. This includes statutory interpretation, legislative drafting, advising government departments and agencies on law reform and specific legislative changes, and also advising clients advocating for regulatory changes. My drafting experience also includes advising incorporated societies on rules changes and associated matters.
I have worked for another national law firm, in government in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and in-house for a professional regulator in London. I joined Duncan Cotterill on my return from overseas and use this breadth of experience to quickly come up to speed on new matters, understand all the potential issues, and add value for clients.
