Helen has been in practice for over 20 years and is qualified in New Zealand and in England and Wales. She has expertise across all legal issues relating to health and safety and employment, including WorkSafe investigations and prosecutions, performance management, disciplinary matters and processes (with a particular expertise where issues may overlap with criminal law), restructuring and redundancy, restraints of trade, medical incapacity, and dealing with personal grievances.

Helen represents clients at mediation and in court, can be engaged as an accredited mediator, and is available to undertake independent investigations into workplace issues.

She regularly presents on employment and health and safety issues (including for LegalWise, HRNZ, CA ANZ and Brightstar).  She also provides in-house training to clients and provides commentary on employment law issues in the media (including for RNZ and Stuff.)

Recent highlights

  • Representing defendants in multiple WorkSafe prosecutions, including matters which resulted in WorkSafe discontinuing its investigation or withdrawing charges, and matters where impecuniosity was successfully argued.

  • Assisting clients with personal grievance claims, employment advisory matters such as employment contracts, policies, and compliance issues arising out of employment legislation, through to restructures, disciplinary and medical incapacity processes, and sexual harassment allegations.

  • Representing clients at mediation, in the Employment Relations Authority, and in court.

  • Undertaking workplace investigations.
