Edward Greig

Senior Associate

I am a commercial litigation and dispute resolution lawyer. I advise clients on a wide range of commercial disputes and I have a particular focus on matters which involve public and administrative law, intellectual property and insurance. Clients have commented that I "bring a superior intellect and litigation skills to any dispute" (Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2023).

I have provided clients with advice and advocacy in matters involving judicial review, contract, tort, fraud, equity, intellectual property, consumer law, defamation, privacy, and professional liability. I take a pragmatic and commercial approach to resolving disputes and enjoy helping my clients to achieve their goals as efficiently as possible.

Working closely with our intellectual property team, I help both New Zealand and international clients to bring and defend claims in copyright, trade mark, registered designs, and plant variety rights. This links in with my broader practice where I act for clients on privacy, media, technology and other commercial disputes.

I have experience in New Zealand and in England and have represented clients in High Court litigation, before tribunals, in international arbitration, at mediation and in public enquiries and regulatory investigations. I am admitted in both New Zealand and Australia (New South Wales) and am a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ). I am recognised as a recommended lawyer for Intellectual property in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2023 legal directory.

I started my career at another large New Zealand law firm and joined Duncan Cotterill in January 2018 after several years working at leading firms in London.

I am currently on parental leave.
