NZ Lawyer announced their Most Influential Lawyers for 2022 and the firm is delighted to advise that litigation Partner Jonathan Scragg has achieved this recognition in the changemaker category. The NZ Lawyer 2022 list comprises 29 of the most influential lawyers in New Zealand's legal industry. Launched in 2021, this year’s list recognises lawyers from four categories – changemakers, young influencers, business and human rights, advocacy and criminal law.
Jonathan received this recognition while in the role of Chair of Duncan Cotterill's partnership and board, only recently stepping down from his two year term. In this high profile and strategic role for the firm, he maintained a busy dispute resolution practice. As a litigation partner in our Wellington office, Jonathan is engaged in a wide range of commercial litigation, insurance and public law disputes. He has particular experience managing large and complex cases, and regularly appears as counsel in all New Zealand Courts, various specialist tribunals and mediation. His practice includes contract, defamation, estate, insolvency, insurance, judicial review, property, professional liability and discipline and trust disputes.
Jonathan is a contributing author to various legal texts published by LexisNexis, Chambers and Partners and Thomson Reuters and speaks regularly at industry events and conferences on a range of topics, including dispute resolution and insurance law. He was recognised as a 'Leading Individual' by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2022 legal directory for insurance work, with a client commenting that "[t]he firm has a strong specialist litigation team, including partner Jonathan Scragg".
