Sean is a litigator and dispute resolution lawyerHe has a particular focus on commercial disputes and regulatory criminal matters. 

He has acted on a range of disputes and advised private clients in matters involving criminal law, contract law, judicial review, tort, professional discipline, and WorkSafe and Council investigations.  Sean has particular expertise in WorkSafe and Council regulatory investigations and prosecutions. 

Sean has regularly appeared in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal on behalf of clients. Before joining Duncan Cotterill, he worked as a Crown Prosecutor, appearing and advising on all aspects of the criminal justice process. 

 

 

Recent highlights

  • Successfully defended a quarry operator prosecuted by WorkSafe, and recovered a significant portion of the legal costs incurred.

  • Assisting a range of private businesses, small and large, to avoid prosecution by WorkSafe following workplace incidents.

  • Supporting and advising major New Zealand and international insurers on complex and large-loss claims.

  • Advised and acted for a listed company operating a New Zealand government-owned facility in relation to a range of judicial review and human rights claims.
