I specialise in civil and commercial litigation and dispute resolution. I focus on insurance, medico-legal and alcohol licensing matters.
In the insurance sector I advise insurers and insureds on indemnity and defence issues with a particular focus on professional liability claims for health professionals. I also act regarding contentious issues arising out of the Christchurch earthquakes.
My experience in the medico-legal area includes acting regarding health practitioner discipline and negligence claims (including before the Coroner, Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, Health and Disability Commissioner, Privacy Commissioner and Ombudsmen). I regularly advise on medico-legal aspects including duty of care, patient consent, privacy and treatment issues. I am a member of the Wellington Medico-Legal Society.
I have a specialist national alcohol licensing practice, advising licensees and industry participants on contentious matters such as opposed licensing hearings and appeals, and provisional local alcohol policy appeals. I also advise on business structures for compliance with alcohol licensing legislation. I regularly appear before the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority and District Licensing Committees.
I hold a Master of Laws (with first class honours) in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from Auckland University.
I am a contributing author to legal texts published by Chambers and Partners.
