Lena Saad

I am an Associate in the Auckland litigation and dispute resolution team, specialising in complex investigations and litigation. I focus on commercial, insurance and regulatory matters which includes advising directors and corporate entities across a variety of industries.
One of my primary practice areas is advising PCBUs and officers on their health and safety obligations. I regularly assist clients in defending regulatory investigations and prosecutions involving WorkSafe, MPI, Department of Conservation, Maritime NZ, FMA and the Commerce Commission, among other regulators.
I advise both international and domestic insurers on indemnity issues as well as assisting policyholders in defending commercial, negligence and disciplinary disputes. These relate to professional indemnity, statutory liability, directors and officers and other liability policies across financial and casualty lines. During three secondments to assist insurers I gained valuable insight into many aspects of the insurance sector. During one of these secondments I advised on all risks and obligations forming the basis for the client’s internal risk and compliance plans.
Having worked in both private legal practice (at boutique and large firms) and in-house for one of Australasia’s leading insurers, I have developed a well-rounded understanding of clients’ needs and strive to provide solution-focused advice to support their objectives. Commerciality and pragmatism are central to my approach with clients.
I have been named an Insurance Business Rising Star/Young Gun. I am a member of the New Zealand Insurance Law Association (NZILA), the Insurance Network, and the Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association New Zealand Incorporated (RITANZ). I am the past president of New Zealand Young Insurance Professionals and formerly on the NZLS Auckland Young Lawyers committee. I am a current member of the Diocesan Alumnae Association board.
