Julia is a Senior Associate in the Christchurch employment team. She has nearly 20 years’ experience and specialises in all aspects of employment law.

Julia works closely with organisations across a range of industries advising on all areas of risk management in the employment relationship. Julia assists clients with performance and conduct issues, disciplinary processes, medical incapacity issues and regularly advises on restructuring and redundancy processes and employment issues arising in relation to the sale of a business. Julia has extensive dispute resolution experience and supports clients to resolve personal grievances and complex employment disputes, representing clients in settlement negotiations and mediation processes. Julia has appeared in the Employment Relations Authority and the Employment Court.

Recent highlights

  • Advising clients on a range of employment advisory matters such as employment agreements and policies, disciplinary processes, restructuring processes and Holidays Act obligations.

  • Supporting clients in contentious employment matters, including in mediation.

  • Acting as counsel in a highly publicised Employment Court case, resulting in a precedent creating decision.

  • Representing two tertiary institutions in relation to personal grievance claims brought against them.

  • Presenting educational seminars to clients on a range of employment issues.
