Jeremy Ansell

I have practised as a specialist employment lawyer since 2012, including at firms in Auckland and Wellington. I have also worked in an in-house legal role at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in London specialising in professional conduct and regulatory matters.
I have extensive experience in many aspects of employment law, including the resolution of personal grievances, dealing with tricky staff behaviour and performance issues, restructuring processes and compliance matters. I also have experience assisting clients with investigations and professional discipline (e.g. Law Society and Education Council) matters.
I regularly represent clients at mediation and in Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court matters, including compliance orders, personal grievances and restraint of trade matters.
Recent work experience includes:
• Successfully obtaining interim reinstatement for a senior manager at an Australasian
telecommunications company.
• Representing a national provider of recreation services in collective bargaining for their first ever
collective employment agreement.
• Negotiating re-employment arrangements for a large group of airport biosecurity officers whose
employment was impacted by COVID-19.
• Assisting the director of a security company in defending claims of sexual harassment from an
ex-employee.
• Successfully defending a company against an interim reinstatement application from an employee
dismissed for serious misconduct.
• Advising and assisting employers with complex medical incapacity, performance management and
restructuring processes, as well as disciplinary and external investigations.
I am a member of the New Zealand Law Society, Auckland District Law Society, and often present at seminars (including by the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ), provide in-house training to clients, and provide comment on employment law issues in the media and in written publications.
