Cecilia provides advice and advocacy across a broad range of areas, with a particular focus on professional negligence claims, insurance matters and complex commercial disputes. Cecilia is a problem-solver, helping clients achieve practical solutions, whether through negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, or Court proceedings. 

Cecilia’s insurance work includes advising insurers on policy response and defending professional and product liability claims. She also deals with general commercial disputes, property and construction matters, contract and negligence claims, trusts claims, and defends clients in relation to regulatory investigations and proceedings. 

Cecilia has been involved in numerous High Court proceedings in New Zealand and England. Before joining Duncan Cotterill, she spent several years in London working at a major law firm with a focus on professional services work. She also worked in-house at a global bank in relation to an investigation by the UK Financial Conduct Authority. Cecilia started her career at a large New Zealand law firm, acting for a variety of clients.

  • Defending a professional trustee in relation to complex and high value High Court proceedings alleging professional negligence.

  • Assisting lawyers, real estate agents and construction professionals in relation to disciplinary investigations and negligence claims.

  • Acting for insurers in relation to contentious earthquake claims, including District and High Court claims, and CEIT claims.

  • Acting for insurers and homeowners in relation to a claim of property damage caused by mobilised forestry slash.

  • Advising insurers and insureds in relation to agricultural and horticultural claims, including claims relating to alleged defective products and negligent advice.

  • Acting for a major agricultural retailer in relation to High Court proceedings concerning a defective product claim against an international supplier.
