The main objective is to clamp down on employers who do not comply with minimum employment standards, including:
- Payment of the minimum wage
- Accurate record keeping
- Holiday and leave pay
- Leave entitlements
Businesses operating in retail, hospitality, and agriculture will be in the spotlight.
One recent example: a kiwifruit labour hire company and its sole director were penalised a total of $100,000 for underpaying 3 employees over several years.
