Richard is part of our Christchurch commercial team and has a particular speciality in property, private client, and agribusiness matters.  His clients range from individuals and families through to larger companies and corporates, including institutional investors.

Richard’s property clients include developers and investors in residential, commercial, and rural property. He advises them on property sale and purchase transactions, commercial and property agreements as well as property development and leasing, both in Canterbury and across New Zealand.

His commercial work includes advising businesses on a range of structures such as companies, joint ventures and limited partnerships. Richard regularly advises on the acquisition and disposal of businesses and shares, and putting together shareholder agreements and commercial contracts.  His commercial clients are involved in the retail, logistics, construction, and medical industries sectors.

A number of Richard’s clients are involved in the New Zealand agribusiness industry. He advises families and syndicates through to institutional and corporate farmers, and supported by the firm’s environmental law and resource management specialists, he is involved in a number of rural transactions including family, syndicate, and institutional and corporate dairy farmers.

Richard has built trust through his clients and is able to advise them on their private legal needs. He is recognised as a leading trust lawyer and has a special interest in asset planning and trusts, presenting regularly at events and seminars on these topics.
